Disney’s Best Dressed Male Characters

Gaston (Beauty and the Beast)

The most self-assured of all Disney male characters, Gaston’s outfit revolves around a long red polo shirt that is open at the collar (“and every last inch of me’s covered in hair!”) with a bow and arrow slung nonchalantly over the shoulder. The yellow marigolds are a questionable choice, whilst the skin-tight leggings and tan waist-belt with matching boots are an odd combination for an alpha male, yet he is so confident in his wardrobe that you somehow believe in it, too.

Aladdin

Proving that even a “street rat” can have style Aladdin adorns white high-waisted harem pants, slightly torn for that rugged look and complete with a golden brown waistband for that splash of colour. The cropped waistcoat is probably more for warmth than style, but the Kippah-like hat with a similar one for his pet monkey, Abu, pre-empts the Paris Hilton era of women dressing their dogs in matching outfits.

Hercules

A half-man, half-god who is clearly just as confused about his fashion sense as he is about his mortality. The Viking-inspired outfit combines trend-setting gladiator sandals and matching wristbands, with a fashion faux pas golden brown tunic (yes, a dress!) and royal blue cape. The whole ensemble doesn’t quite ooze Greek God, but he does have good legs so we can forgive him.

Eric (The Little Mermaid)

The Disney male whose fashion choices most reflect the casual look chosen by man today, Eric spends the majority of the film in his open-collared white shirt with ¾ sleeves and blue jeans rolled up to the calf. The red cummerbund may not be deemed fashionable now (although I am a firm believer that it should be!) but it is a statement piece that, along with the big black boots, puts the charm in Prince Charming.

Beast (Beauty and the Beast)

The least attractive hero in Disney history yet arguably the most smartly dressed. Beast’s image at the start of the film leaves a lot to be desired, but fast-forward to his date with Belle and he is looking mighty dapper in a dashing blue blazer, white cravat, orange gold waistcoat, and black trousers. Beast completes the well-groomed look by tying back his mane with a navy blue bow; doesn’t he scrub up nicely?!

Jafar (Aladdin)

Undoubtedly one of Disney’s best creations and most elaborately dressed. Jafar’s long black wrap-around dress with a train attached has an air of grandeur, whilst the over-sized red sleeves, jester-style gold shoes, and ridiculously high sultan hat with wings epitomize power and self-belief. If this doesn’t scream evil genius, then the gold snake stick as an added accessory does!

Apologies to those who didn’t make the cut: Captain John Smith and Peter Pan, I appreciate your efforts but sticking to the one colour for every item of clothing will never get you far up the fashion ladder; Woody, fancy dress is a popular option for nights out with the guys but I strongly feel you need to re-think your day-to-day wardrobe; King Triton, less is always more.
