Gift Ideas for a 30th Birthday
The 30th birthday is viewed as one that many might dread. The 20′s are in the past and, as the first and perhaps most fun decade of adulthood, their departure may not be an occasion worth celebrating. But there’s no reason not to come up with a 30th birthday gift that’ll help the day be remembered for years to come. Whether it’s an extravagant present, an exciting excursion or a few drinks with a few laughs – any effect to make a fuss will be appreciated.
A great way to find the perfect present is by hunting online. There’s a never-ending amount of shops that specialise in birthday gifts, from CDs, DVDs, and books – often at a far cheaper price online than if they were store-bought. Gifts bought online can also be gift-wrapped and delivered with ease and the cost of delivery within the UK is reasonable from popular sites such as Play.com and Amazon. Alternatively, day experiences ensure that it’s a memorable time and there are companies throughout the UK that deal with organising activities such as spa days, race car driving, stadium tours and even sky diving. Theatre or comedy shows also make a great gift and, if the birthday boy or girl is dreading the big 3-0, a few laughs wouldn’t go amiss!
Birthdays are celebrated around the world in different ways which could provide some inspiration for how to mark the special day for your friends and families. For example, in Denmark, the celebration of ‘round’ birthdays like 30 often calls for a huge party with a guest list boasting hundreds of people and up to six hours of food, songs and sketches by those invited. In Germany there’s a curious tradition that, if a man reaches 30 and still doesn’t have a girlfriend, he has to sweep the stairs of the city hall – the ultimate act of humiliation. He must then find a single lady to kiss or he is deemed to have failed. If this is the situation with a loved one back home in the UK, however, it might be worth ensuring the delivery of jokes is made in a slightly more subtle fashion! But a party is always a fantastic idea and gathering their friends from all different walks of life into one place will get the nostalgia ball rolling and will make you very popular indeed.
Ideas to mark the occasion in the work place would go down well if their birthday happened to fall on a weekday. If they’re already dreading the big day then there would be nothing worse than walking into a dull office without hearing a word of good cheer or acknowledgement. So, if you know of someone in the workplace who is turning 30, getting together to buy an over-sized card or chipping in for a big present will help the day at work go by with a bit of fun. You could go all out and go for a slap-up breakfast before office hours, buy a birthday cake to share at lunch, decorate the walls in banners and streamers or even make the day a casual dress day – just something that will make it stand out from any other day at the office. You could even cover their desk in “Happy 30th Birthday” wrapping paper, just to make the point that they’re getting old! Either way, you only live once so ensuring a fun day at work is had by all is the way forward.
Celebrities are known for extravagant celebrations when it comes to birthdays and these examples show the necessity to still mark the 30th in style. Paris Hilton turned 30 in February 2011 and threw herself a themed party in Los Angeles, complete with her own petting zoo, singer Christina Aguilera attended the after party of a film premiere, and, in 2008, actress Katie Holmes received a five tier cake from her husband, ‘Mission Impossible’ star Tom Cruise. But there’s no need to follow the lead of those who can afford the extravagance. There are cheap alternatives to all three of these in the form of trips out, small-scale parties and party cake – It’s all about catering specifically for the taste of the birthday boy or girl in question and having a good time. Whatever the decision is in regards to birthday celebrations or presents, where they came from or how much they cost, it’s important to make a fuss of birthdays as they won’t last forever.
