Are Designer Perfumes a Big Hype?
Designer perfumes are a big hit for the perfume industry full stop.
There has been extraordinary growth in the sales of perfumes over the last 10 years or so, this is mainly due to the fact that our individual choices are usually influenced by the media. The media has changed the way we choose products; from the food we eat to the makeup we use, the shoes and clothes we wear and the things we do to entertain ourselves.
What’s more, because of our obsession with celebrities and pop stars this trend won’t be changing any time soon.
In any case, the perfume industry on the whole is fully aware that a large percentage of our purchases are influenced by products that are endorsed by famous celebrities and pop stars. Since perfume is one of those things that just about everyone loves to use, it’s not surprising to see so many celebrities jumping on the band wagon to become perfume entrepreneurs. Consequently, the big perfume houses are able to form lucrative fragrance deals and alliances with famous stars to create and market brand name perfumes. The end result then being that both parties involved is able to make masses of money an on-going basis.
By wholeheartedly embracing the use the media as their mouth piece, these dynamic duos are able to effectively promote the new perfumes they release every year. As a result, the perfume industry rapidly grows in leaps and bounds. This growth continues in such a way that the industry is booming at a phenomenal rate that far exceeds its success of yester years.
As a matter of interest, all you need do on any given day is switch on your television and you’ll see why the industry is creating so much wealth. While driving about town, I bet you’ve often noticed the glossy advertising billboards featuring the likes of Kim Kardashian, Mariah Carey, Paris Hilton and P. Diddy promoting the different best selling perfumes, endorsed by them and released by top perfume brands. And since the current trend veers towards a lot of people wanting to have something in common with their favorite celebrities, owning a perfume endorsed by them is like having a piece of them. In this instance, it is clear that fame really does perform wonders for a brand.
Moreover, what really sets designer perfumes apart from those made by smaller independent perfume makers is the colossal amount of marketing budget the big brands that make them have at their disposal to promote their blends. The fact that most of these fragrances are marketed alongside the design house’s clothes, shoes, fashion accessories and jewelry lines to match also show how savvy these companies are. By marketing entire fashion and fragrance lines, top design housesare using all the avenues available to them to make as much money as possible and encourage customer loyalty.
However, there are some free thinking consumers who frown on the idea of purchasing designer perfume brands. They feel that people are only paying for the designer brand perfumes because they like the celebrity promoting them. Such people might see it as a way of connecting with their favorite celebrity rather than actually liking the perfume. On the other hand, the free thinkers don’t feel that the designer and big name perfumes are any better than those made by small scale perfume makers. Except that the designer brands often come with a hefty price tag.
This is where the role the smaller independent perfume makerscome in to play. They are often able to provide top quality and value for money perfumes for the budget conscious perfume lover. Consequently, these perfume makers are also seeing significant growth in their businesses too. They are able to make fabulous perfumes in small batches and sell them to the more discerning customers, who want a more personal touch.
Many specialize in a preferred niche and others in blending and retailing duplicate versions of popular designer perfumes for the more prudent shoppers.
Another big benefit of independent perfume makers is that some of them are more than happy to share their knowledge with other people who are interested in making perfumes.
So going back to the main point, yes the designer perfume market can be seen as a big hype, a sweet smelling, wealth creating and popular industry that generates billions and billions of dollars every year; making some smart people very rich.
